LOCATION:  Forest Service Sno Park parking lot at Taylor Creek

on Hwy 89, 3.5 miles north of the intersection of Hwy 50 and 89 in

South Lake Tahoe.

START TIME:  8:00 AM TO 1:00 PM

FINISH TIME:  Not later than 4:00 PM

DISTANCE:  5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.8 Mi)

AWARD:  11th in the ‘Flora of the Sierra’ series Featuring Pride of the Mountains on a magnet.  

SPECIAL PROGRAMS:  Museums, Forty-Niner Calif. Counties.

 

GUIDED NIGHT WALK:  JUNE 26, SATURDAY ONLY

SATURDAY ONLY     START TIME:  Register at 5:30 PM, Leave at 6:00 PM

DISTANCE:  10K (6.2 miles) No dogs allowed on the night walk.

Walk past Fallen Leaf Lake, forest, meadow, and bike trail.

PARTY!  Join the Placer Pacers at dessert potluck at the conclusion of the guided night walk at Camp Richardson picnic area.

 

TRAIL RATING:  The 10 is rated 2 and the 5K rate 1+. The 10K goes through forest, meadows along the shoreline of both Fallen Leaf and Lake Tahoe, the Tallac Historic Area, the Forest Service Visitor Center, the Rainbow Nature Trail, and Stream Profile Chamber.  Wheelchairs and baby strollers not recommended except on the 5K route.  The 5K route includes the area around Lake Tahoe.

 

PREREGISTRATION:  The award and credit will be $4.00 if preregistered by June 18, 2010.  After that date award and credit will be $5.00.  Credit is $3.00.  You may walk free if no credit or award is desired.  Send preregistration form and check payable to the Placer Pacers, PO Box 142, Auburn, CA 95604.  No refunds.

 

MISCELLANEOUS:  Pets on leash permitted on day walks, no smoking on the trails.  Water at start/finish, restrooms at start/finish and along the route. This walk is under a special use permit with the US Forest Service.  Camping at Camp Richardson off Hwy 89, hookups, no dogs, allowed at 1-800-544-1801, or Fallen Leaf, 530-544-0426, no hookups, or Tahoe Valley RV Resort, 530-541-2222, dogs ok, hookups, ask for Placer Pacers area, at Hwy 50 & 89.

DIRECTIONS:  From I-80:  At the junction of  80  & Hwy 89 south, travel south on 89 to start point Sno Park about 38 miles, past Tahoe City and Emerald Bay.

From Hwy 50:  At the junction  of Hwy 50 & 89, travel north on 89 toward Tahoe City, 3.5 miles to Start Point Sno Park, past Camp Richardson, the Visitor Center and over the Taylor Creek  Bridge.

Come for the fun at Lake Tahoe.  Enjoy the cool days and the fun walks.  We have a good time at the pot luck dessert fest on Saturday night after the walk at Camp Richardson picnic area.  This only happens once every other year, so you don’t want to miss these walks.  Come and camp or stay at a hotel for a mini vacation.

This is a notice to make camping arrangements now.  All campgrounds are filling up fast, you must plan ahead or the campgrounds will be full.

Camp Richardson:  800-544-1801.  No Dogs!  Hookups,  off  Hwy 89.
