START/FINISH TIME:  Start any time between 8:00 AM  and 1:00 PM.  Finish no later than 4:00 PM

START LOCATIONS:   Forest service Sno Park parking area at Taylor Creek on Hwy 89, 3.5 miles north of the intersection of Hwys 50 and 89 in South Lake Tahoe.  Watch for IVV signs.

DISTANCES/TRAIL:  5K OR 11K. The 11K goes through forest, meadows along the shore line of both Fallen Leaf and Lake Tahoe, the Tallac Historic Area, the Forest Service Visitor Center, the Rainbow Nature Trail, and Stream Profile Chamber.  This is rated 2, wheelchairs and baby strollers not recommended except on the 5K route.  The short route includes the area around Lake Tahoe.  This is rated a 1+.  No smoking on trails. 

GUIDED NIGHT WALK & DESSERT PARTY

START TIME:  June 28, Saturday only.  Register at 5:30 PM.

10K past Fallen Leaf Lake, through forest, meadow, and bike trail.  NO DOGS ON NIGHT WALK

PARTY:  After the night walk you are invited to a Pacer Pot Luck Dessert at the Camp Richardson Picnic area on Hwy 89 at the picnic table area.  Bring your favorite dessert to share.

AWARD: The 10th in the “Flora of the Sierra” series, featuring Yosemite   Aster on a 4-inch tile coaster.  There will be only 50 awards available.

PREREGISTRATION: The award and credit will be $5 if preregistered by June 18, 2008.  After that date award and credit will be $6.00.  Credit only is $3.00.  You may walk free if no credit or award is desired.  Send preregistration form and check payable to the Placer Pacers, PO Box 142, Auburn CA 95604. Refunds cannot be provided.

 DIRECTIONS:

From I-80:  At the junction of I-80 and Hwy 89 south, travel south on 89 to start point Sno Park  approximately 38 miles, past

 Tahoe City and Emerald Bay, before Taylor Creek.  Watch for IVV start signs.

From Hwy 50:  At the junction of Hwy 50 and 89, travel north on 89 toward Tahoe City, 3.5 miles to Start Point Sno Park past Camp Richardson, the Visitor Center, and over the Taylor Creek Bridge.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MISCELLANEOUS:  Dogs will be allowed if kept on a leash, clean up required.  There will be water at the checkpoint and start.  The event will be held rain or shine.  No refund for no shows.  This walk is under special use permit with the U.S. Forest Service.

PROCEDURES:  This event is open to everyone.  Volkssports, including volkswalks, are noncompetitive events.  Walk, jog or run at your own pace.  Each participant, whether free or paid, must register and sign an Amateur Athletic Waiver and Release of Liability (Parent or Guardian must sign for a minor) at the start point.  A start card will be issued upon registration.  It must be carried during the walk, validated at control points along the route and turned in at the finish upon completion of the walk.  An adult must accompany children under 12 years of age on the walk.
