There will be a 5K or 6K route available
on each of the walks.
START/FINISH TIME:
Start any time between 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Finish
no later than 4:00 PM.

DISTANCES/TRAIL: Walk #1(Empire Mine-Grass Valley) - 11 Km
route –- Rated 2-2+, the route begins in the state
park on dirt trails, and will exit onto city streets in Grass
Valley. You will pass by various historical buildings including the Lola
Montez House, and the Northstar Mining Museum & Pelton
Wheel Exhibit. There are some stairs on this route.
Walk #2 (Nevada City) - 10 km route - Rated 2+-3. You will register
at Empire Mine and drive to Pioneer Park in Nevada City.
If lot is full, park along the streets on the route. This route will be on city
streets, passing many historical points of interest.
AWARD:
The award (design pending) will be a patch depicting the Emmanuel Episcopal Church,
built in 1858, in Grass Valley. 50 patches
will be ordered. There will be no reorder.
PREREGISTRATION: The award and credit will be $5, if
preregistered by April 9, 2010. After that date award and credit will be $6.00. Credit only is $3.00. You may walk free if no credit or award is
desired. Send preregistration form and
check payable to the Placer Pacers, to: PO Box 142, Auburn, CA 95604. Refunds cannot be provided. Please indicate Walk
#1 or #2.
MISCELLANEOUS: Water at start/finish and along routes. Restrooms at Start/Finish and along routes. Pets are permitted on a leash with cleanup. There
are restaurants along the route through both Grass Valley and Nevada City. Not recommended for wheelchairs and strollers.

DIRECTIONS: At the intersection
of Highway 49 and Highway 20 in Grass Valley, take W. Empire St. (it will become E.
Empire St). (This intersection is signed with
Empire Mine directions.) You will cross So.
Auburn St. Follow W. Empire St for approx.
1.4 miles to the park’s main Visitor parking lot.
WATCH FOR AVA SIGNS. Please park at the far east end of the lot as indicated
by AVA signs.
There will be directions at the registration
table to get to the actual start point in Nevada City.
PROCEDURES:
This event is open to
everyone. Volkssports, including volkswalks,
are noncompetitive events. Walk, jog or run
at your own pace. Each participant, whether
free or paid, must register and sign an Amateur Athletic Waiver and Release of Liability
(Parent or Guardian must sign for a minor) at the start point. A control (start) card will be issued upon
registration. It must be carried during the
walk, validated at control points along the route and turned in at the finish upon
completion of the walk. Children under 12
must be accompanied on the walk by an adult.
